I came to the University of North Texas from out of state and I am sure I had a much difference experience than those who were in-state. First of all, because so many people lived a short distance away from the university, it seemed like everyone went home on the weekends. Denton is a nice town and there is quite a bit to do, but it gets boring when half of the school decides to go home every weekend. Sometimes it felt more like a community college than a big university. I think I would have liked this university much more if I were from Texas.
I was also really disappointed with the low amount of school spirit. Where our athletics lack, our music department somewhat compensates. It is cool there is such a big music program because music concerts seem to be always going on, which is awesome.
The dorms are decent and there are a lot of international students living in the dorms. There are lots of things for the residents to use like video games and cooking utilities.
One thing I really liked about the school was how environmentally friendly it is! I think about 40% of the school is powered by alternative energy sources, which is awesome! There is also a lot of community service programs and opportunities to get involved and volunteer.
I would recommend University of North Texas to a friend!
