Meh...

This university is filled with foreign students (over 20%) and commuters. The campus is seriously so dead on weekends. Not a good place unless you want to study all the time (aka no social life) and the quality of the academics seriously waver depending on the program so I would make sure to research your major before attending this school. If you are a foreign student, especially from Asia, I would recommend this university and you will fit right in.

Pros: knowledgeable faculty, great study abroad options, challenging courses

Cons: unhelpful advisors, poorly maintained campus

I would NOT recommend to a friend.

Basically a Glorified Community College

Where do I begin with all of the issues at this school? The classes are way too big and the professors do not seem to care very much about the students. The school doesn't prepare students well in communication skills, especially writing. The advisers are very unsatisfactory. I do not feel that I got the academic support or guidance that should be available during the college experience. Things in general are not conducive to the student environment. Also, the campus is pretty ugly. Can you guys plant some flowers or get some goats or something?! Most of the students are study nerds and the social life is pretty lacking. Many students go home on weekends and it basically like a community college. You might as well save money by getting all of your pre-requisites out of the way at a community college since UTD basically is one anyway. Also, the campus police are ridiculously strict. It is annoying but I guess some might see that as a good thing. Some programs are good, like the Pre-med and engineering program but they can be unnecessarily competitive. There is not a lot to do so I guess that leaves a lot of time for studying. Also, they give A-, which does not count as a 4.0. I think it can be too difficult at times. There is also a great amount of diversity, which is a good thing. This campus also has a huge amount of foreign students (Indian and Chinese) and definitely caters to them.

Pros: good academic reputation, challenging courses

Cons: unhelpful advisors, poorly maintained campus, unfair faculty/instructors, outdated technology, lacking on-campus jobs, ugly campus

I would NOT recommend to a friend.
