Top of the Line Stanford is recognized internationally for its superb academic reputation and as a leading research institution. Having a Stanford diploma is very prestigious, it comes with a lot of respect and has definitely helped me in the corporate world. The academics are some of the most elite in the world. Comparing the graduate programs to the undergraduate programs; however, I would say there are certainly more resources reserved for the graduate programs. Academically, Stanford is a very competitive environment and professors have high expectations. Stanford is on the quarter system so things move really quickly. It can be easy to fall behind if you do not stay on top of things and there is not much time for catching up. Keep in mind that the nearly all of the students (save a lot of the athletes) are brilliant and motivated. This creates a highly intellectual and stimulating atmosphere, even after leaving the classroom. Overall, I found my classes to be intellectually stimulating but I will admit the classroom sizes were a bit large at times and you couldn't always understand the professors who spoke English as a second language clearly. Stanford houses a lot of the prep school types and Type-A personalities, but it also has a nice amount of diversity. Most students are also the over-achieving type. The downside is that the social scene at Stanford is lacking and Palo Alto is very expensive. Pros: good academic reputation, knowledgeable faculty, beautiful campus, great networking opportunities, challenging courses, access to cutting-edge technology Cons: expensive I would recommend to a friend! |
