Waste of time

Indiana University was not the best experience for me and it opened my eyes as to how badly run and less than stellar Slavic Department was. Firstly, they had claimed that since I had already done a Masters in a similar field, that I would be waived 8 credits which basically meant that I would have one less semester to complete my 2nd Masters there. It was an unexpected turn of events when sometime in October, after I had already been going there for nearly 2 months that they notified me that this was not the case and that I would have to complete all 30 credits, meaning staying an extra year. I was infuriated and this error was treated as a slight oversight without anyone trying to somehow compensate me in some way. Thus I wasted my time taking classes, most of which were mediocre and seemed lacking compared to my other graduate school. I was also introduced to a student who was specializing in a similar direction as I was, yet she barely spoke the Slavic language and instead of reading the texts for research in the original language, she used English translations. By some miracle she is now doing her PhD there in a program that is supposedly one of the top Slavic programs in the world. I'm sure Indiana University has its pluses, but personally that school is just ruined for me.

Pros: beautiful campus

Cons: unhelpful advisors

I would NOT recommend to a friend.
