Terrible terrible experience with ACAP

I enrolled myself in the counseling course the 17th of October 2023 hoping that some of the previous reviews/feedbacks I saw online had been improved by ACAP. I am now on week 6 and things are just getting worse every week. You call asking for help and they don’t know the answer and I mean NO ONE. You send emails, voicemails, etc. They NEVER get back to you. As far as the learning process I haven’t learned anything, they want you to read endless documents and watch videos then submit assignments but the teachers just don’t teach you or explain anything I am very frustrated with ACAP and as soon as my first trimester is over I’ll withdraw. DO NOT MAKE A MISTAKE ENROLLING WITH ACAP THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY AND YOU GET NOTHING IN RETURN.

Frightening and Disappointing

Sadly, the ACAP, tries to impress with a Website and Moodle that is pretty and seems functional, but it is all smoke and mirrors. This is becasue behind the illusion is an imbalance of bad to good administrative and academic staff. You will be welcomed with open kindness and then completely forgotten about. Sadly, it an experience that has turned me off any more education im Australia There is bullying, discrimination and every class I took, spoke of how they enjoyed their lecturers but said administrative staff lacked professionalism and training. Sad

A sad decline....

I recently enrolled in the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I withdrew due to dubious teaching standards. I had previously received my PhD in another field and was embarking on a career change, but have since transferred to a university. I feel that for the price charged, ACAP is currently delivering a subpar education. This is unfortunate, as I have known many people who have graduated from ACAP in years gone by and they speak of an entirely different educational experience. It seems that the institution was once held in far higher regard.

An exciting and dynamic organisation

As both a staff and a student (why wouldn't you?), I find working and studying at ACAP very engaging. As a staff member, all my colleagues care about the student's journey and provide individualised support when necessary. I regularly speak to students so don't get stuck with automated message as in other tertiary institutions. As a student, I'm provided with teachers that know their "stuff". Having studied in a large university previously, I was always surprised by how outdated the information was - not at ACAP. Its about current and recency. Its about practical and applied information - its in their name. Very happy to be a part of ACAP.

What a joke

The review below titled “ Exceptional Experience at the Australian College of Applied Profession (ACAP)” was definitely written by an ACAP staff member. The place is both intoxicated with students and staff. Avoid at all costs.

Exceptional Experience at the Australian College of Applied Profession (ACAP)

I am currently pursuing my MBA at the Australian College of Applied Profession (ACAP), and I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of education and overall experience thus far. Having completed half of the program, I can confidently say that this institution is truly exceptional. The faculty members at the college are highly knowledgeable and experienced professionals who go above and beyond to provide valuable insights and guidance. Their expertise and dedication have significantly enriched my learning journey, enabling me to gain a deeper understanding of business concepts and their practical applications. The curriculum is well-designed and comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics relevant to today's dynamic business environment. The courses are thoughtfully structured, combining theoretical knowledge with practical case studies and real-world examples, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, the college offers excellent resources and facilities that support our academic pursuits. The library is well-stocked with a vast array of research materials, and the online learning platform is user-friendly and intuitive, providing easy access to course materials, assignments, and additional learning resources. What sets the ACAP apart is its commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment. The faculty and staff are approachable, always willing to assist and address any concerns we may have. Additionally, the college promotes networking opportunities and industry connections, allowing students to build valuable relationships within their fields of interest. Overall, my experience at the ACAP has been outstanding. The institution has exceeded my expectations in terms of the quality of education, faculty expertise, curriculum, and student support. I highly recommend this university to anyone seeking a comprehensive and rewarding educational experience.

Staff are truly horrible

I never completed my Graduate Diploma as the clinical supervisor for Melbourne is truly horrible. I now work in community services mental health despite my incomplete qualification and am grateful I took care of myself and avoided the horrible toxic behaviour

Corporate Greed...Tinged with arrogant brown-nosing bias educator drunk with power.

I recently graduated from a well-known University with a BA in Counselling. I started this course with this crappy ACAP knowing no better. Firstly I was bullied for being a male by feminist teachers and failed a subject for no reason. I mean "No Reason”. I failed on a subject with no official reason given or feedback given only because I challenged the teacher on a subject I knew personally PTSD, having suffered for 2 decades. Can you imagine being failed on a subject without being given a reason for failing; this teacher did not have a clue teaching PTSD or any other subject! Moreover, as I progressed at this top university I began to realise that ACAP would hire tradesmen’s to teach psychology if they were cheap enough. Also, the other student's, many mature ages and others simply wanting a road to permanent residency were mostly substandard arrogant human beings. In my Course, there were no tests whatsoever only coursework. Lots of students like that. Very different from University where tests were mandatory. Question? …..Would you ever hire someone that graduated from ACAP? Well ,let just say Caveat Emptor.

Do not enter this institution...

I am studying the MSW(Q) our cohort is majorly comprised of international students; limited exposure to Australian students. ACAP gives support to students starting out, but then limited support once you pass their first couple of subjects; and that is regardless of what they say or SLS states. Poor form on international students - Why? I have been asked to write essays for them for money; they refuse to engage in any preparation prior to class; and frankly, if you can accept a call from a call centre or telemarketer and not hang up, well then this course is for you. If you cannot, go to a university with English standards or higher IELTS bands because you will not be able to understand these students. As for the course material, its shocking, there is zero continuity between the coordinators or lecturers, you have been warned.

Horrible behaviour by some students

As someone who studied counselling at ACAP, I decided to relocate to another institution. Not because the college was bad, but because of the lack of empathy and poor emotional intelligence shown by some of the students who are studying to be future counsellors. Some students would boast about how they were purposely rude to staff members and how they wanted to make their lives a living hell. This was absolutely appalling to see and hear. Furthermore, the amount of disgusting behaviour by students on the ACAP student Facebook page was shocking. If anyone from ACA or PACFA were to see this kind of behaviour, there would most likely be automatic expulsion for them to never study a counselling course again. I am now at another university studying counselling and the students here are much brighter, show high emotional intelligence, treat each other and staff members with respect no matter what the challenge may be that they are facing. I found that students studying counselling at ACAP had not fully recovered from their mental issues and therefore expect ACAP staff and the course content to fix their mental issues. ACAP really need start choosing carefully who they let into their courses and monitor some of these students bad behaviour. To be honest, I would be very cautious and do your background research about seeing some of the counsellors who graduated from ACAP based on the traumatic experiences I witnessed whilst at this

The Worst Educational Experience Ever

This place is grossly unprofessional and cant seem to get themselves organised. They promise you the world on sign-up. Once you're passed being able to change providers for RPL it all goes south from there. The staff are untrustworthy, they lie, they refuse to reply to complaints in writing if at all. You are told you will be called and it will be all taken care of, weeks pass and you hear from no one, they are clearly inundated with complaints and can't keep on top of them. Please for your own mental health stay away from this place. It is not worth the fees' they charge.

Really insightful educators

I am enjoying the experience in being a student doing my MBA after many years of not studying. The Educators have a great balance of real world experience and academic expertise.

Navitas greed continues

Beware - this institute is owned by Navitas. They have a clear program of cost cutting throughout their colleges. The modus operandi is to put someone at the helm who has no care whatsoever for staff or student welfare and allow them to tear down the organisation piece by piece. Cost cutting is the name of the game and what is left at the end is a shell of an institute. Then it's onto another college to rinse and repeat. Someone is making money here but it isn't the hard working staff. If you value ethics and humanity stay well away.

Shocking abuse from staff please avoid them!

I experienced traumatic abuse from the staff. It was so appalling that I didn't complete my graduate diploma and would never recommend this horrible place to anyone. Also ~ the positive reviews are clearly written by ACAP staff. This is what you can expect from this place. Please study somewhere else!

Good experience

I was told by a friend there were bad reviews and was surprised. I am a current student with ACAP and have had a fantastic experience. I studied previously with another uni and never finished the degree. I’m back as a mature age student and absolutely love the support I have had! I honestly have really enjoyed it. I was worried I’d fail but had help from the tutor as well as the learning support. I am doing online and still love it, despite being technically challenged. I do struggle with the study load sometimes and get a bit stressed out but that is a me thing. I am really happy with my choice.

Loss of integrity

I started at acap in 2010 as a postgraduate and back then the college was so full of life and hope. I loved my studies and felt empowered by the experience. Returning in 2015 to do my Masters, I noticed things had changed. The teachers I loved had left the college and the ones who had stayed had become angry and hateful. I also experienced academic bullying-- yes, the academics bullied me FOR BEING AUTISTIC. And when I reported it, I was gaslighted, even though other students had seen it happen to me too. I got my masters but it's such a shame that acap lost its way :(

Loss of integrity

When I started at acap in 2010, it was a beautiful hopeful place and I really enjoyed doing my Postgraduate studies. I returned in 2015 to do a Masters and it had changed. That once uplifting space was filled with academic bullying *yes, from staff towards students* and a general unethical vibe throughout. I agree with the posters here, the uni has become money grabbing. It has lost its way. A sad thing.

Teachers with no experience in the field

No longer called the Australian College of Applied PSYCHOLOGY (read PROFESSIONALS) the Australian originator of the College must be turning in his grave! Once the most up to date evidence based training, with Australia's best clinicians, and now sadly with only academics who know little about working in the mental health field. Even the evaluations are meaningless, to reduce teacher workloads students only receive "Satisfactory" or "Not Satisfactory". How is that helpful in a person's learning, development and preparedness to work in the field? Read carefully over the last 3 years of reviews. It is clear since being taken over by Navitas the "Leading Global Education Provider" it's all about money making. The teachers are ill equipped, have impossible workloads and expectations, are fresh out of PhD studies and are given powerpoint slides to death straight out of a text book, and paid very little. Please don't waste your time here. Go to a main university and enrol there. At least there are teachers at Universities with industry experience.

Do not go! Consider your options

considering other education providers is highly recommended. Money hungry organisation with a lack of care for educational standards or the wellbeing of their students and presumably employees. In addition to the poor reviews on this website. It would appear that employee working condition reviews are not the best either. Unhappy employees and student ?

Crtical race theorists and gender political unprofessional teaching methodology

I concur with all the reviews here. I fast-tracked three years in just over two and worked very hard for my exceptional GPA. I found that yes, they do not like you challenging them or opposing their agenda and particularly with the feminist teachers there. There is no professional separation from their personal opinions and my grades suffered because of it. Yes, they are profit-driven and students were forced to do Year 1 core, no matter they were in year 2 because it generated over a million dollars for the college. It is a dog's breakfast. If I had my time over again I would never have chosen this college. Hugely disappointing and some teachers couldn't organise their way out of a paper bag, that would be low-level tutors who didn't/don't give a crap about the students, they are only there to pay for their doctorate or whatever. Taking a student down for speaking out and because they have sour grapes about their high grades, deliberately nitpicking assignments when there is a proven track record of excellence (like a GPA of almost 6). Whatever you do, DON'T choose this college for your degree, they are only after your money with very little professionalism to show for it and an agenda against students who do extremely well who are victimised with vendettas. Know your worth and they will take you down because of it. Hypocrites and corporate greed-mongers. Go somewhere else.

I wouldn’t

I studied with them from 2016. What was once an amazing educational experience has become nothing short of appalling. They throw a few PowerPoints up each week and that’s it. Premium price for not much at all. The good educators have left after their contracts were revoked and told they could only return on a very basic minimum wage. After I graduated it took over 4 months to receive my certificate. They basically don’t want to know you once you’re already a student with them. I wouldn’t study with them again.

Corporate Greed in Higher Education with Inferior Teaching staff

My first mistake was completing a Diploma of Counseling at an accredited, but badly run, woke institution (that no longer runs public courses). The second even biggest mistake was going to an induction course at APAC where the LGBT salesperson conned me and promised most of my courses DOC would be accredited to obtaining Bachelor of Counseling. The first lie, as I found out, ACAP runs the same course standards but is so greedy to obtain money from you they will downgrade your standards to fit a few more units in the Bachelor of Counseling...Profit-driven certainly! The ACAP academic standards of teaching are simply woeful. As many here have experienced, the teachers insult you for having a different or contrasting opinion to what should be academic discourse. Then single you out for further punishments and humiliation. I endured this kind of treatment for a year after much discourse with the teaching staff. Having spoken to many students at Acap what attracts them is there are no exams. You pass or fail on the whims of the very arrogant feminist teacher. Beware, males, anyone not a female at Acap has a bulls-eye painted on the lower part of his body. In conclusion: I left and did a further 2 years at a University and graduated from that institution this year. In addition, what a difference it was. At Uni, I never had a teacher without a PHD lecturing. Sure exams were tough and the teachers were tough on standards. However, I learned a lot and I am proud to be Alumni of this wonderful Catholic University located near Broadway. By the way, I am not Catholic. This brings in the question of what is a Bachelor’s from ACAP mean in terms of skills, taking the individual personal component aside. If I were an employer, I would not hire anyone with a Bachelor's degree from Acap.

No Clear Distinction Between Educational and Personal

I briefly studied at ACAP to see if I wanted to pursue counselling with them. Given that I had studied at another university beforehand, I was subconsciously comparing the two, and found that the way content is delivered at ACAP is biased and, to be frank, unprofessional. I may be wrong here, but I do not believe it is appropriate for a lecturer to insert their personal life into every single lecture/centre the lectures on themselves. Tutorials were often spent discussing matters that had little to no relevance to the unit, and I found myself confused every week about what I had learned. The answer was not much. Please, if you want a quality educational experience, consider other options. You will be charged far more than any other university to essentially teach yourself

Not the college it once was

This college is suffering. What was once a thriving learning environment is now a toxic dump. Once we had a fantastic amount of weekly content and structured class sessions. Now it is a prerecorded lecture and off you go. You are now paying a premium to teach yourself. They do not support students. They have lost all the good lecturers. The management should hang their head in shame.

Not recommended

This is an education provider more interested in profits than educational outcomes. As it is a private organisation, tuition fees are high and there is a lack of transparency.

Great University, Graduated in 2015

I’m really surprised by the amount of negative reviews on this site My experience was positive. I completed my graduate diploma of counselling at ACAP (after completing my bachelors or applied psychology at RMIT), and I found the ACAP experience to surpass my experience at RMIT. I found the educators at ACAP to be of a high caliber, class sizes were kept small, the admin team were so helpful - I didn’t feel like I was “just a number” (which was how I felt at RMIT) I commenced employment before I even graduated, and I now work in private practice. I often recommend ACAP to friends, colleagues and clients.

Toxic, detrimental to mental, emotional, physical health

I am feeling beyond angry and disgusted, by the way that I have been treated, after investing thousands into courses at this college. Many of the classes are irrelevant powerpoints, with a teacher reading from them, material that is not relevant but clearly to fill up time. 1. Lack of professional boundaries: my experience with teachers has been an inability to separate personal judgements, personality differences, from the course work. Taking feedback personally, after it was reported to be an 'anonymous' form. Furthermore, taking disputes and frustrations about arguments between staff members out on students and personally attacking students that they disagree with in the class. 2. Lack of quality or teaching knowledge/experience: teachers do not have knowledge or experience of disciplines, teaching that subject. 3. Lack of time between assessments: a 'trial by fire' approach to assessments, where there is not enough time for sleep, eating, socialising, exercising, self-care etc in order to maintain BASIC mental and emotional wellbeing. no genuine concern by the staff members or institution for the wellbeing of their students. 4. Entire year long pieces of work being constructed in a subject matter, which are then marked by teachers from a DIFFERENT subject matter, with no knowledge of that subject 5. Lack of support for online learning -- entire courses conducted online without acknowledgement of the toll on mental health, of having every class recorded, without space for interaction with fellow peers or support from fellow peers. A great lack of social cohesion, or social support in order to get through gruelling programs such as the Graduate ones.

positive

I am a current student there studying on campus apart from some administrative hiccups which were dealt with in a timely manner. I have found it to be on par with other universities i came from studying at a well known and highly regarded University, I have found the teachers and staff to be friendly, professional and only to happy to help. The smaller class sizes are great especially for getting feedback from the educator. Its not perfect but no uni is.

A stepping stone school

ACAP is fantastic if like me you're an older student who hasn't studied since high school (15 odd years ago) and you're looking at a big career change. They'll take just about anyone into their bachelor's degrees which is great, until the first year is done then you're just kind of discarded. If you can't get in elsewhere, spend a year here then transfer like I am. Their fees are crazy high, they make what a normal uni would for an entire degree in your first year, after that units are constantly cancelled, spaces are limited and even teachers get left without guidance and are seriously overworked/underpaid. It's a stepping stone. Use it wisely but do not stay.

Traumatizing

I am a current ACAP student. Not because of my choice, but because they are forcing me to continue studying with them even against my will. I received the opportunity of my dreams to study at an excellent university and take the course I love that will give the upgrade on my career much more than my current course at ACAP. I asked ACAP to cancel my current course because I have the opportunity of my life to studying what I love, and they simply denied it. It is so frustrating! I’m very unhappy with studying my current course. I already have some anxiety attacks because I have been with hair-loss because of this stress. Studying at ACAP IS COSTING MY MENTAL HEALTH, AND I STILL HAVE TO PAY A FORTUNE FOR THIS. Unfortunately, a college that offers courses in psychology, human services, among others, does not understand anything about the subject as they are doing this to me! Thank you, ACAP, for ruining my career dream and my mental health

If their staff handling applications are an indication, then oh boy.

I applied for a spot in their honours program. Even though my GPA was well above their intake cutoff, I didn't get an offer. The staff member who handled my application didn't realise that my GPA was out of 4, didn't convert it to the 7-point scale they use, and didn't even ask me about the discrepancy between what looked like a "low" GPA and high WAM. Looks like I dodged a bullet though.

what a joke

The homepage has recently been updated and went from 'technology illiterate' to '2002 myspace'... perhaps in 20 more years, their design crew can match where the University of Adelaide was at 20 years ago. There is no consistency amongst the lecturers and tutors, course outlines or resources, meaning one subject has you looking in the course outline, one has you looking in resources for a specific week and some even separate 'resources' folders that are easy to miss. There are one or two terrible lecturers that have no respect. Ive seen a lecturer reduce a student to tears whilst constantly attacking and arguing with another student, wasting the entire class and not listening to any opinions they disagree with, nor do they try to understand. There are facebook chats amoungst students about how bad specific lecturers are. It is painful because whilst some are terrible, there are others that are wonderful and students feel hurt that nobody is standing up for them. This is a 'shake and bake' degree factory. if you literally just need the piece of paper and dont want to learn anything, you dont mind being insulted and degraded constantly and you arent expecting job prospects, then this college is for you.

Seriously dont do it

After completing another University program, i was looking forward to studying online. Im not a bad student, i try to participate as actively as possible and its normally well-received, There are some incredible lecturers and the course coordinator is amazing, however, normally they are mediocre-to-terrible. This one lecturer is constantly derogatory to others. Im writing this not because they have upset me personally, but because I've had more than ten people come to me upset about the way this person has treated them. Id like to say its all hearsay, but it isn't, ive seen this person constantly tear down others and state "i don't care" whenever someone comments, but then continues to rant most of the lesson about their personal life and accomplishments. Im not joking, i can not just tell you about their thesis, but i can tell you their political persuasion, their opinions on international politics too, several of their former jobs, their bad life experiences, seriously, this person constantly talks about how they are a professional without demonstrating an ounce of professionalism or respect. People have tried reporting them and nothing has been done, leaving students feeling defeated and distressed. There have also been some great lecturers, ones who laugh and have fun, respect you as an adult and want you to contribute to the class, but they are rare. For the most part, it feels like the staff don't like their jobs, they don't like students and they are literally there because options are thin on the ground. Staffing is inconsistent and has a high-turn over.

Appallingly poor standards

I enrolled in a VET course with ACAP after health issues forced me to withdraw from my Masters at a different institution and have been extremely disappointed with the online education process. The student portal and online learning systems are extremely difficult to navigate, and I say this having moved from an online course and having completed postgraduate study 10 years ago which was delivered online The online information regarding student placement was out of date which caused extreme confusion around requirements. The hurdle requirements are ridiculous and excessive. The student administration staff will only call you regarding fees. They only respond via email for any requests for assistance, even if you state that you require a phone call. I would urge anyone considering applying to ACAP to reconsider.

Great teachers, terrible structure

Although I am still studying with ACAP, I would not recommend others to do so. My teachers have been great so far, but the structure for online is terrible. Calling the Adelaide "campus" a "campus" is also a stretch. ACAP does not have their own building, they rent two levels of a high school city building. There have been periods we start workshops hours late, as rooms were double booked with high-school classes. I have also been pushed into courses I haven't done pre-requisites for, even 2 of my counselling subjects have been taken away and I can no longer enrol in them, replaced with broader topics I see no benefit from completing. Last year I was placed into a class by myself, with no other students or lecturers (corrected half way through the trimester) and was hopeful this was a one-off mistake. I am only here writing this because again, I have no access to my counselling lectures or online meetings. I spend $2000+ on a topic without a lecturer for multiple weeks; it is disappointing to say the least. Unless you have other options, do not study a bachelor of counselling through ACAP. I am one to rarely voice opinions online, but the standards ACAP have are too low to ignore. ACAP, do better.

Blatant discrimination and abuse by admin and educators

I made the mistake of completing a grad dip in counselling with this college. After completing previous studies at UNSW I was firstly appalled at the lack of academic standards. However what was worse was the unbelievable abuse and discrimination I faced by admin staff and educators. I've now moved to Melbourne and the placement supervisor is a disgrace. I will definitely NOT complete my placement or qualification with them as It would mean subjecting myself to further humiliation from that bigot. These aren't professionals. They are unprofessional and discriminatory. AVOID THEM if you are a member of the lgbti community.

Exorbitant and not worth it

ACAP has a reputation for being more pricey in comparison to other institutes, so logically it should stand to be higher value as a private institute. However this is not the case, in all of my years with ACAP, the staff have demonstrated ineptitude with their efforts, their qualifications, overall effectiveness. -Psychology is a multidisciplinary field where practitioners are encouraged to have training of multiple psychology approaches, however lecturers will push their own agendas via their own personal approaches. These tendencies meant clashing with syllabuses & students had to cater to the lecturers preferences & to go against marking criteria to appease the lecturers. At times with multiple markers, this meant conflicting feedback or lower marks from the differences in marking preference. -The educators are highly unprofessional. Lecturers have not shown up or forgotten compulsory online tutorial dates without make-up sessions resulting in students having to undertake assessments without vital teaching. They have lacked knowledge of course material & provide substandard efforts in their duties as lecturers. -Due to changes in management & lowered pay, educators & staff give inadequate effort from low morale at the expense of paying students. -Certain units are essentially 'filler' units with little relevance to the field. -In some units students are expected to learn and pass on their own because the lecturer has failed to provide adequate guidance or tutelage. This is at masters level. -Assessments designate specific frameworks to qualify passes, where the allocated frameworks are barely covered in lectures/tutorials/weekly materials. -In comparison to other major universities, material is heavily watered-down. There are many more issues but not enough space to list them all, overall this institute is not worth it and students will regret wasting money, time and effort enrolling in here.

Incredibly dissappointing - Brisbane

If you are able to go to another Uni to study your Bachelor of Counselling I would recommend highly. Since a restructure this year, the assignment requirements and marking criteria are very vague. Add to that, the educators can't even answer assignment questions, and zero care factor from the heads of the university if you offer any feedback. You are in for a disappointing ride. Not to mention the fact they charge $3000 per unit. I wish I had never enrolled with ACAP to do my degree. ACAP make studying on-line extremely difficult, with hurdle requirements 150 - 300 words to be submitted every week which have no weight towards your grade anyway but you will fail if you don't submit. Can't tell you how disappointed I am with them

I could not find any useful information on their website just like who is the director for the college and what if I need appeal my assessment who will be contact? there is no any relevant information online. I even do not know who is the head of school. but the good part for ACAP is student can study online or party time

Inflexible

Whilst i have found the educators fantastic and the content matter of the course really interesting I would not recommend this course to anyone who is the primary carer of children. Unfortunately there is no flexibility on assignment extensions, even for a week, in the case of children being sick, emergencies over school holidays etc. This has proved a difficulty for me, having to withdraw from one course as they would not grant a 1 week extension. The course is great, but allows for no flexibility.

Rip off education

I regret studying with ACAP. Tried to complete a Diploma of Community Services. They wanted to run their own workshop instead of doing work placement. They held the first one in my local city, but after low numbers they told us we had to travel interstate at our own expense. I tried to lodge medical certificate due to the stress this added on me. I requested alternative options but they ignore all your contact. In the end I tried to get out of it but they just kept charging me. I was charged like $30,000 for this course. I’ve tried complaining and appealing but it take years with them. They think it’s ok to take 8 months to review them. Stay away from this school, they will ruin your life and put you into debt for nothing

Staff cannot be challenged

I enrolled onto the Bachelors of Counselling through ACAP Melbourne Campus. I found the site itself to be lacking, with dirty toilets and little space for amenities. The main issue, however, was the structure in place in regards to requesting extensions. In one class, an audit took place, resulting in students not receiving the scoring or feedback of their first assignment. Two students received an extension to their second assignment, as they had been waiting for the feedback as assisting their upcoming assignment. I emailed asking for the same courtesy, though received no response. I emailed again at close of business and advised I would work under the assumption that I would be granted the same extension. I received a response the next day advising that my request for an extension had been received as an act of aggression, and further such requests would likely result in my expulsion from the course. Hardly a supporting environment to further study. As such, I'm currently looking to withdraw from the course and transfer to a more supportive University.

Bad experience

I started my Grad diploma in Psychology last year. I was super excited about it and started The course with great aspirations for the future. However, after few weeks, I had to face personal challenges thus put a huge burden on my shoulder in concentrating on my studies. When I encountered this problem it was passed the census date. Thus this was not planned nor deliberate. Anyone with a sensible mind would opt out should you decided, this is not for you. I was genuinely having personal difficulties. On top of this the assignments were given for all three subjects and this stressed me out. When I told the administration they told me to withdraw and you can appeal for special circumstances. But they never told me to defer. So I withdrew my subjects with valid evidence. Then later they refused to refund the money back to HECS and told me to appeal to the tribunal. As a student we don't have that kind of money to do so. This went on for few months. Then I wrote to the ombudsmen. They did not care about it at all they kept on pushing it back and forth to different departments. Now I have huge HECS fee of 7k just for three subjects that I did not gained anything from it. As a tax paying citizen I am disappointed with the system where the system is lazy and decriminative towards the helpless. I feel the education system is corrupt and bullying students knowing that the rules work in their favour. Very disappointed.

Awful

Firstly, University costs approx $800 per psych unit, ACAP $2000 per unit The Melbourne campus is very poor..i could hear a loud party in the ajoining room as i sat a complex exam. It is small, dated and dingy (old office block) Does not support students who question .. i was part of a very disgruntled class whose discussion forum was closed down by academics. These usually high achieving students were seeking support for their unusually low assignment grades. When the students compared their markers comments, they were similiar...students were marked down for missing tables and hypotheses that were in fact included in their assignments. I studied here for two years and would not recommend it for Bachelor of Psychological Science. I transferred to Deakin University to complete my degree. University could not be worse than ACAP for psychology.

Terrible all about making money not about students welfare

Terrible service tutor not turning up put on wrong course plus many other problems Do not study here (Brisbane campus) They are all about taking your money and nothing else.

Worst educational setting

I would not recommend ACAP or any of their courses. The educators have minimal qualifications and it's all about profit. You don't learn anything. The teachers will pass you because they want retention - so you'll find a lot of international students seeking residency and getting by on 'group assignments'. The educators are performers and entertainers. Mostly white middle class women who are just there for status and their ego. As a company (Navitas Limited), the share holders and illusion of profit is what is important. In reality, hundreds have resigned, there is change management fatigue, low morale, minimum wages, and no career progression or development opportunities what so ever. It's all about who you know and a culture of nepotism. It's a shame that Social Work is being taught in this private college where the accreditation standards are at an extreme low. The head of School is a business woman working part time and only employs people that will cover her incompetencies. I would not recommend the Australian College of Applied Psychology to prospective students, people seeking employment, or anyone in the Human Services Industry considering taking a student for a placement. The degrees are worthless.
