Primary Education

Education is a priority in emerging Armenia that begins at pre-school where physical, moral and mental development is initiated and the family accepts its responsibilities in this process too. Three years of primary school education follow in the course of which basic knowledge of society, technology and nature is set in place.

Middle Education

Grades 4 to 9 follow at intermediate school typically through to age 14. After a further period studying an academically-based curriculum, successful students receive their certificate of basic education.

Secondary Education

Secondary schooling continues for a further 2 years. The certificate for full secondary education opens doors to vocational training and tertiary education.

Vocational Education

There are 2 levels of vocational training in Armenia. The first provides hands-on job skills for entry-level workers, while the second provides technology-specific training for up to 4 years leading to a formal qualification.

Tertiary Education

Armenia EducationThere are a number of private and state universities in Armenia where undergraduate and graduate programs may be followed. The three most prestigious ones are thought to be the American University of Armenia, Yerevan State University, and Urartu University.

Of these Yerevan is the oldest, having been founded in 1919. Within its faculties there are 110 departments. It has over 3,000 employees, of which approximately 1,200 are professional staff coaching almost 10,000 students.
